Yes, it is just after midnight on DAY 280 of lockdown in South Africa, 31 December 2020 and I am listening to Queen of Hearts by Juice Newton and I am dancing on my chair while welcoming the last day of a partly crappy 2020! And listening to some great 80’s and 90’s dance music!

Partly crappy? Yes, partly, because we always have music and books! My holiday was cancelled on day 275 of lockdown and it was a total anticlimax to unpack my bags, but hey … nothing to get upset about! I just changed my plans while being stuck at home! Watch a lot of Christmas movies, a new series or two and got little to no sleep at all.

Yesterday, day 279, we good bye, Adios to uncle Des. He lost the Covid-fight just a few months after his wife, Margie, died of cancer. I am cross. No, this is an understatement: I am furious!! There are people out there who does not care about being safe and vigilant when going out of their houses everyday! They don’t care about wearing their masks, sanitising or washing their hands and just acting responsibly around other people. It makes me furious when people saying the Corono-virus is a hoax. This hoax is really out there killing people. FFS!!!! Wake up, South Africa, it is not about YOU, the individual! It is about saving the people of a country. In the last two days alone I have heard about a lot of people who died of Covid. Six of them being people I knew personally or know a person connected to them.

This is not funny anymore! Don’t tell me I’m a puppet of the South African government, because then the whole world is. What do you thinking is happening in the rest of the world? Other countries also have rules and regulations! They also have lockdown. The new infections in South Africa is causing other countries to close their borders for us. DO YOU STILL THINK THIS IS A HOAX? I say FFS again!! Wake up!! Do YOU need to get sick first or do YOU have to loose someone really close to you before you realise this is real? What if you loose your mother, father, sibling or child? Will you then get upset and curse at all the ignorant assholes for infecting you or your loved one?

Get real, people! Wake up! Wear your mask, sanitise, wash your hands regulary. If you don’t want to be safe and responsible for yourself, be it for others!

This morning on Day 275 of lockdown, I heard that I was in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid. The reality of the Corona virus struck me [again] as I had to start thinking about who I have been in contact with since Monday, 21 December 2020. I started by making mental notes and quickly realized that a mental note won’t do. I will have to start writing it down.

Today was also the day that I would leave for my well-deserved week away, visiting a little town up the West Coast of South Africa. I soon realized that too won’t happen today as I might put others at risk of getting the virus. Making the responsible choice is not for yourself, but for others around you. What an anti-climax it was to unpack my bags!!

Now back to the reality of the Corona virus. It really upsets me when I read in social media how many people say this is just a normal cold. Or the Corona virus is a hoax. Or we are puppets of our government who just wants to control us with ridiculous rules. [I might re-think this one, because some rules ARE really ridiculous]. But it is not only South Africa in lockdown … countries across the globe are in lockdown. The level all over the world varies continuously!

The reality is that we should be RESPONSIBLE about the Corona virus. If you choose to believe it is a hoax, please go ahead and do just that … if you don’t have contact with other people. BUT if you have contact with others, please be cautious as you don’t know who they are going home to. There might be a sick relative who are a high risk of getting the virus. Do YOU want to be responsible for getting someone else sick?

PLEASE think about it again … it is not a hoax. I know many people who lost someone to Covid. I know many more who was tested positive.

THIS IS A REALITY. It might not be real to you, but it is real to many others who have lost loved ones during the past 275 days!

You only get to react with negative comments if you can give life back to all the people who passed away due to Corona-virus. Can YOU do that?
