… we all want to believe in the goodness of people.

As you all know by now … I’ve turned 50 last year and one if my questions was … Is there still time to meet my soul mate? Does my soul mate actually exist?

A few weeks ago I decided to join a 50+ Dating app. Firstly I had to pay a few bucks for the honor to put my photo on their app with my sorry-ass profile details.

Mmmm … quite a few handsome guys on the app and immediately I realized this is not the place for me, because they all want pretty, skinny, sexy, rich women … I am not any of that. I’m incredible, I know, but that wasn’t listed. So, I decided that I can’t look at the sexy hunks, I’ll have to look at the round ones … like myself, or go for the extremely old men who can’t see properly and who might be satisfied with mediocre old me.

The fine cheek of some guys … looking like Oros-men and not even handsome, but want to meet a beauty queen with a model-like body, 20 years their junior! Oh, my word! Do they honestly think that any woman fitting that description, wouldn’t want the same?

Any way, a few hours after I joined two guys messaged me, and I messaged them back and we started a chat. It was quite interesting and honest me tell them both that I don’t think that we are actually matches as per our criteria and they both were looking for slender, younger ladies and that I didn’t fit the profile. So, the one guy, Alex invites me to his Facebook profile, and send him a message via messenger (no friend request). He challenges me for having an inactive profile and I said that only my friends could see my activity on my profile. Obviously he sent me a friend request which I did not accept. The next thing he sends me is a message stating he is on a plane with his dad leaving the country, with a photo of him in the plane (at night, I might add) with sunglasses on. BUT then the “detective” in me awaken and I started looking at his profile or that which one can see. I took the photo he sent me and started a reverse search … and what will pop up? The name of a Brazilian singer and most of the photos on this guys Facebook profile actually belongs to this singer. Furthermore, only a few of his friends comment on his profile, and when I went into their profiles, I found three more profiles belonging to him with all the exact same photos, but with a variation of the name. I confronted him with screen shots of the Brazilian singers name and photos and he immediately blocked me and I reported him on the dating app. (Up to the moment I left that site, he was still not deleted.)

So, now I try to delete my profile, because I honestly do not have the strength for this. While I’m struggling with this, the second guy messages me again, giving me his name and tell me a bit more about himself and his business. Before I could even start searching him, another hunk sends me a message, with some more photos of himself and I start searching his photos and immediately found another scammer and reported him too. So, my reply to number 2 was: “I just found two scammers on the site, if you are into scamming women, please move on, I don’t have the energy for this crap.” And the next thing … his profiles disappears.

In just over 24 hours three scammers came to light … what happened to honest people? I just realized … my soul mate is definitely not on the 50+ dating app. It took me 3 days to be removed from the app – I was forced to post all over social media site that they are scamming their members and reporting them to Google Apps, but finally I was removed as they surely reckoned they didn’t need that kind of attention.

Be assured … I still want to believe in the goodness of people … and I joined another app supposedly Afrikaans, and Christian. Let’s see what will pop up there …

PS : There is already one creepy one, but you will have to wait for the saga to continue … this one is good, really, really good! I’m still dumb-struck and I’m not easily at a loss for words, but I will write about it soon.
