How many times in your life have you said: never will I … ?

There are quite a few things that I have said NEVER for before … one of them was “never will I get lost” as I have always been lucky enough to instinctively get to where ever I need to be without much trouble … famous last words!!

I’ve been driving to Aurora on a regular basis for almost a year now and I can really drive there with my eyes closed. OK, not really, but you know what I mean 😉

Last Friday it was time for my well-deserved breakaway to tranquil Aurora. I don’t drive straight to the N7, I drive through Durbanville and then I take the road to Philadelphia and that way I miss the traffic driving through Malmesbury late Friday afternoon. But last week Friday afternoon it was raining – you know that misty rain, where you can barely see? – and I missed the turnoff to the N7. I got to a T-junction of which left would take me to Melkbosstrand and right indicates Atlantis and Darling.

I got the feeling of “not sure where I’m going”, but I continued driving and ended up at some squatter camp at the back of – I still don’t know which – Atlantis or Darling. I wish the road was quieter ~ then I would have taken some photos. It is just amazing to see all the wires going from the poles next to the road supplying electricity to this informal settlement and you won’t believe how many satellite dishes are fixed on trees.

Anyway, it was getting dark really quick and I knew I had to find my way back to the N7 quickly. Normally, when I’m in a fix like this, I just instinctively find my way out, but on Friday I had to use the GPS otherwise I probably would have slept in my car under a tree.

I arrived at my destination a lot later than anticipated, and after 50 summers I can say that I got lost! I don’t like being out of control in any situation. My hosts for the weekend found it extremely funny and still can’t believe I got lost!!
