Day 276 – challenging myself

by Surene Esterhuizen

Instead of packing my car to leave for a much-deserved week away in a little town up the West Coast, I had to unpack my bags.  I took a day to sulk, while watching some more Christmas movies and on day 276 I woke up realizing that I had to get my act together and while in self isolation, I might as well spend the time doing stuff that I can see the result of …

Like doing some decluttering!  Especially because an advert popped up from the Home Storage Solutions 101 Facebook page challenging people to do their Declutter in 365 days challenge.

I followed the link to download the 2021 calendar and realized that is just too daunting to think of doing 15 minutes each day on decluttering.  I then checked out the December 2020 challenge for today, 27 December.  The challenge was for clearing a flat space in 15 minutes and I decided this is doable.  I took a look at all my flat spaces and realized it is quite a bit and I had to choose one to clear out.  I ended up choosing two areas, which are both in sight and cleared them out. I feel good … I did it!

Next step for today was to start by sorting out my books, which I might add; you can find in many places in my house … not only the bookshelves. The little piles are growing as I sort them into fiction, recipes, motivational and craft books.  This will take a few days, but I will get there too.

Challenge, week one … done and dusted.
