South Africa … 21 days lockdown

by Surene Esterhuizen

Due to COVID-19 South Africa is in 21 days lockdown. I don’t want to go down that road of what you are allowed to do and what not, because every one can read and/or listen to the news.

My question(s) out of pure curiosity is … what are you going to do? What books are you going to read? What projects do you plan? Are you going to binge watch movies or series on Netflix or Showmax?

I asked this on my FaceBook profile and got a few interesting answers.  Ann, Marlize, Suzanne, Salize and Karen have to work. Mandia and I can work from home, but because we are limited to what we can do, we can still commit to do some really nice stuff. Mandia has a plan to read at least one book.

Helena Kotze are going to do Diamond Dot painting and crochet a blanket. The diamond dot painting looks interesting, but we will have to wait till after lockdown to order the material, but nothing stops us from investigating how to start with it.

A lot of other people are going to spend some time crafting and even committed to some decluttering.

Marna de Kock has a lot of projects and says the 21 days will not be enough. When I saw her on Wednesday evening, she has already started to sort out her fabric which she uses for quilting. She is already busy filling her third container. Organised stuff just looks great, doesn’t it?

Joyce Lubbe will be working on her doll houses. Joyce has shared some photos and don’t it just look stunning!

Hester Martin is busy with embroidery work and I can’t wait to see what she will share with us at a later stage.

Lelanie Galhardo will be spending some time to crochet, read and also diamond dot art (now I have to look into this). She will also enjoy her garden, play with her dog and sort out some cupboards.

Edna Britz will also spend some time to declutter, crochet and knit.

Preline Swart and her husband farm together, and since all their farmworkers are off during the lockdown, she will be helping Ralph with some work on the farm.

Elize Parker will be writing on her new trilogy in Afrikaans (Tuin van Eden-series).  I think for Elize this is both work and having fun! What a privilege!

Nerina Smith was so busy sorting out the admin work while her guest house has to be closed, that she didn’t even think what she will keep herself busy with.

My gorgeous cousin, Madeleine’s French fiancé, JP purchased her a Learn French kit and that is her homework while the two of them are in lockdown in their respective countries.  She’s got her 21 days cut out for her.

Anchen Kobus has to homeschool her kids as the Belgium school year ends end of June.

Melinda du Plessis has a few books to read, wants to spring clean her house, exercise daily and write 3000 words.

Marinda van Wyk says she will keep herself busy with some writing, knitting, crocheting and organising her cupboards.

Lizette Groenewald also wants to declutter her home, exercise and watch some DVDs.

Hester Lambourn wants to catch up with the course that she is busy with.

Trisa Hugo is going to start with something exciting during this 21 days, please follow this link to see what it is all about.

My favorite one comes from Hester Degenaar, she is going bra-less for the next 21 days! You go, girl!

Now after sharing all of the above … everyone wants to know what the writer is planning …

  1. I plan to (hope I do it) write a blog every day for the next 21 days. They say once you do something for 21 days a new habit is formed. Let’s see if this is true.
  2. I have 3 motivational books that I would like to finish.
  3. I plan on making at least one pair of slacks for myself. I still need to cut out the pattern sheet … and that is going to take a while to motivate myself.
  4. Knitting … I have knitting, but I might just finish the blue jersey I have started a zillion years ago. I only need to shape the sleeves and knit the sleeves. I might, I might not …
  5. I am going to join a comfort blanket.
  6. I have a lot of decluttering to do.
