Junk yard garden

by Surene Esterhuizen

Have you ever heard of junk yard gardens? Did you know there is a whole category for that on Pinterest? Have you ever seen one?

I had the privilege of seeing one this past weekend when I visited Kobus and Marinda at their idyllic country home. It inspired me so much that I am going to make a small junk yard garden in an area of my yard where nothing wants to grow. Or maybe it is just that I can’t really plant anything!

I just showed some photos at work and said that I want to visit a junk yard and see what I can find there and mentioned that I am looking for a wheelbarrow. The very same day unusable stuff from work was on its way to the nearest junk yard and two (yes two!!!) wheelbarrows found a new home. Like Marinda said, once you get an idea of what you want to do, (un)usable things just falls into your lap. Ánd I got an old telephone too! I can’t wait to start my junk yard garden.

Now all I need to do is find a way to make my wheelbarrows look pretty and find the right plants for it.

Here are some great photos of Kobus and Marinda’s inspiring, gorgeous junk yard garden. Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed it.

Isn’t this just absolutely gorgeous!!!
